Ranjan Raj: IIT Bombay to Netflix

Ranjan Raj is an Indian actor who has been part of several short movies and web series. His story is about being persistent and daring to take the road not taken.

 

Early Life

On 18th May 1994, Ranjan Raj was born in Arwal, Bihar, India. He was a studious kid since his childhood. Ranjan completed his schooling at the local government school. While growing up he had a passion for acting but he couldn’t pursue it because of the lack of resources.

Later, he started to work towards the IIT-JEE examination to become an engineer. Ranjan’s hard work finally paid off and he got into IIT Bombay one of the best institutes in the world. When he reached IIT Bombay he noticed people around him were involved in many activities other than studies. This clicked in his mind and he started to work towards his acting skills simultaneous with his studies.

Ranjan Raj made a place for himself in the university theaters but that wasn’t the end for him. His friends, juniors, seniors even professors were impressed with his acting talents. He made up his mind and dropped out of college. It wasn’t a tough decision for him because he knew what he wanted from life now.

Career

Ranjan Raj began his career in 2014 when he got a small role in “Shuruaat Ka Interval” where he played the minor role of Ticket Checker. After that, he appeared in “Interval 3D” as Usher, and then in 2016, he appeared in the film “Rustom” as Newspaper Salesman. Later in 2019, he appeared in the TV Series “ImMATURE” as Ranjan, same year he debuted in a Bollywood film “Chhichhore” where he played the role of Abhimanyu Rathore in the film.

 

Ranjan Raj got famous when he played the role of Balmukund Meena in the TVF’s series “Kota Factory” 2019. He is shown as a troubled character who is being introduced to the concept of self-satisfaction and sexual attraction. In the ending snippets of the minute-long teaser, Balmukund’s friend asks him, “Meena…whom have you been spending time with?” and he replies, “Myself” is bound to bring a smile to one’s face. India loved his role as Meena, he even has a separate fan base now.

 

All of his small roles piled up and now are counted as some of his masterpieces. In an interview, Ranjan Raj said that he plays every role with utmost responsibility so that when someone sees it they admire it. Ranjan gave up IIT Bombay to get closer to his dream and today he has everything he ever wanted.
