Why Get on a Pool League?
Many people play on pool leagues because they want to have fun and be challenged at the same time. When you join a league, you will see that it will give you a chance Ligapools to play people of all skill levels, it is totally different than just playing the average person. Being on a pool leagues also gives you a chance to make money, some leagues give cash prizes and other give you a trip to the nationals. The two main leagues that people play on are APA and BCA, but there are many others out there.
The main difference between APA and BCA are the format and the rules when it comes to playing the actual game. On the APA league all of the players have their own rank depending on how well they play the game, each team on the league can only have so many good players. The 8 ball team players are ranked anywhere from a 2 (beginner) to a 7 (very good player) Every team on the APA 8 ball leagues can only play 23 points per each time that team plays. The teams are not ranked at all on the BCA teams, meaning that they could have all advanced players on the teams. Since the players are not ranked this league is mainly for good players because if you have all great players on one team and on another you have some beginners, there is not really a chance for the beginner team to win. You could also be on a beginner team that constantly plays awesome teams so you will get challenged and possibly make your game better. As you can see APA would be the league to get on if you want to have fun and BCA is more for expert players.
On the BCA league you are allowed to call a safety, that is where you are able to make a ball and then the other person has ball in hand, while APA does not allow that. BCA you have to call your pocket, when in APA it is just slop. In APA if you break and the 8 ball goes in that is a win, but in BCA that is not allowed. Those are just a few of the differences in rules between the two leagues.
